We set off from Faceby with 95% charge, 213 mile range. Stopped at Berwick-upon-Tweed, Chapel Street Car park and the car is charging while we have a lovely lunch in Cornerhouse café. Zap map said both charging points were free but when we got there the faster one was taken. Hopefully we will get enough charge.

Forgot to say, we had to pay £1 for a Northumberland parking disc to park in the car park which shanksi got from the library!

He has a Nissan app to keep track of how the car is charging, but it is not communicating at the moment so we will keep our fingers crossed. These things are good when they work.

Maybe one of the Scandinavian countries or China will implement highways with dynamic wireless charging......to support autonomous cars

Mrs Shanks hope you get enough enough charge

Thank you both. We have made it home but it was a bit of a saga. I'm shattered so will post tomorrow with numbers if you are interested! A week with my sister and family takes it out of you!

That's good news Dvorak. Supermarkets are the perfect place for chargers as they have large car parks, toilets, cafés and shops.

Quite an adventure that was. To continue mrs s's story, we returned to the car to find it had been charging much slower than we'd hoped - I am now thinking this is a limitation of what the Leaf's AC convertor can handle and we will only ever get about 6.6kW on AC - but the CHAdemo charger was now free so we hoped to get a decent charge from that. However, when we connected it told us it couldn't supply enough total charge because the other cable was now connected to a Jag. Fortunately the owner of the Jag turned up and, once he realised we weren't pointing at his car because we were enraged or about to steal it, unplugged and we had a nice wee chat with him (there definitely seems to be a cameraderie among EV owners). So, free and fast charge now working, we went for a walk around some of Berwick's old fortifications before returning to the car to find it nicely up to 83% with enough miles to get home, if you were to trust the car's own estimate....

....which obviously we wouldn't so we planned in another stop at the big Tesco in Dundee where we were able to use a pod point charger and use the toilet and grab some snacks and drink some tea. 28 mins for 19.33 kWh at a cost of £5.22 which was pretty good and boosted projected range up to about 110 miles, more than enough to get 55 miles back to Stonehaven (although almost certainly not enough to have actually gone 110 miles, as seems to be the way of things)

We're now looking at maybe getting a home charge point. As I understand it, we should probably be looking at a 7kW one and we should be able to claim £350 + £250 back from Govt and Energy Saving Trust but other than that, not really sure what to go for, or the best way to get good advice before proceeding, so would be interested in what others have done. Thanks.
