Thinking of you McG.

Hope she's ok jda. Does she need to think about using a rollator or similar instead of the stick now?

Seems like it may be eyesight related. Years back she had one eye done for cataracts but the other is now poor and she's not got good depth perception. Eg missed a jam jar with a spoon just now. Was stepping off a kerb when it happened, not that she knows the exact details.

MIL moved into the home this morning. We're due to have a video chat with her tomorrow so will be interesting to hear how she's getting on. We're over there on 12 September, so it will be good to see her when we get there.

She hasn't had much time to process things - find out on Tues, sign on Wed, move in on Friday of the same week.

Bandage off and it’s not the dainty little row of plastic surgery quality stitches I’d imagined. About 6 inches of Frankenstein-sized handiwork right across her forehead! And a pair of panda eyes to go with it. More troubling for daily life is she hurt her foot too, not terribly but enough to make walking hard. Must have twisted something in the stumble.

Poor thing. Takes a lot longer to recover as you get older not to mention the lack of confidence that comes with that kind of accident. I hope she recovers well.

After the productive chat before I went on hols, the APs have done nothing. So I shall I have to babysit them through decluttering as well as trying to work out if they'll cope moving somewhere smaller. And I will not offer to move in & look after them, I would go potty.

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
