FiL has kept some ridiculous stuff from his parents. Well-used 19th century bedlinen!

On the plus side, I now own a lifetime supply of socks, mostly unused Christmas presents he received dating back over some decades.

Another thing in the loft was dad's slide projector, stand and screen - plus a large box of slide boxes. These will largely be of family holidays and the like. I think I'm going to get a slide scanner and get them onto USB sticks for sister and me. Don't feel able to just chuck them.
Another thing was a radio controlled boat that dad made. Again I suspect I'll struggle to let that go, even though it probably can't be made to work

The hospital are talking about moving MiL to somewhere that specialises in end of life care.

Although they have a frail old lady in their care, their description of her is no different to how she has been for some time. Mil is though in pain and getting morphine as required.

Despite this we have had a great break although Mrs axe has had a few wobbles at various points. Usually when her brother texts her.

my mum gifted me the 'must save all your celebration cards' gene I’m trying to get into habit of recycling them - be much better if folk sent a message or called rather than sending cards. So I suspect there will be a lot to sort out there eventually, but they have been on sorting out photos and getting rid of the ones that are unidentifiable.

Glad you had a great break Bazoaxe. Understandable why Mrs axe would have wobbles.

gg, hubby and I have both got packrat genes...from all our parents. MIL's house won't be too bad, though we need to know what clothing she might need for when she does move into a care home.

Dad's motto must have been if you can find it within arms reach just buy another one. Shit load of printers, computers ( means 100's of cables) and hoovers.

That’s a bit of a shock Bazo. Has someone got the wrong end of the stick?

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
