I’d be tempted to suggest she had more quality time with him decorum! I don’t know how you stand it!

My mum also spends way too much, a lot on over generous gifts for others. My brother and I are going to try and see her accounts to ascertain the extent of the problem.

Went to see my ma today. She said what did you think of Alistair Darling dying? I could cry about it just thinking about it.

I said your brother died a month ago was that not worse? She said no. I could’ve smashed my head off the table there & then. A fecking lunatic.

Sending thoughts to everyone on this thread at this time, which can be particularly harsh for many with the focus on family. We’re off to mum’s later and will spend Christmas Eve and Day with her, so that should be challenging and lovely in equal measures.

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
