Merry Christmas and Happy NewG(rrr)
My mum was awful today. Just a cold, but with COPD and lung cancer it really debilitated her. Lots of good chat about care options. My missus thinks this will be her last Christmas but would surprise me if she was around for another 5 years! :-) G

I feel your pain about negativity in the older generation. My mum cannot find joy in anything. Her neighbour has significant dementia and has now (without my being consulted, how dare they!) gone into a care setting. Mum is livid as 'her daughter is just doing it so she can go on holiday'.
I told her to wind her neck in and stop trying to cause trouble in an already difficult situation for the family and she is furious with me for interfering.

That's almost exactly what my Mum said about her next door neighbour in a similar situation. Apparently the daughter was 'really mean to her mother'.

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
