Hopefully the diagnosis will mean she can get the support she needs Lizzie. Don’t forget that Macmillan offers information and support for families too.

I’d love to sort through mum’s house - so much random shit!

I'm dreading it, for exactly the same reason!

Our plan is just to get a clearance auctioneer in. Perhaps. I suppose when the time comes we’ll probably spend some time digging through stuff, we’ll want one or two keepsakes and there’s a couple of upgrades to our own stuff I have an eye on :-)

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
