Not to same extent but when mil couldn’t as readily get to shops started to order stuff from magazines and in particular in pursuit of a prize of £20k that she thought would ease the life of her family.

It took us ages to persuade her it was all a con and even if she won the prize was not life changing

When we then tidied the house we now gave a garage full of all the random shit she bought.

I was lucky enough to do mums paperwork sorting whilst she was still alive. It was unbelievable what she had. I ended doing her paperwork from that day on. She was still paying life insurance for my dad who had died nearly 30 years earlier!!

Well. Mum has low grade lymphoma, for watch & wait, and is coming home tomorrow. She's feeling a bit emotional.

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
