A couple of loo frames got delivered to my parents' house this evening: fortunately my in laws were visiting my dad so could put them somewhere safe! Discharge planning is clearly happening but the hospital have not thought to pop me on the contact list...

Today's call " I can't get your father off the stair lift"

He has dementia and mobility issues. Rush over to see that he still has the seat belt on and that's the only reason he can't stand up.

LW - we had this issue with one of dad’s hospital stays and it transpired that dad had told them to communicate to the family via him (and didn’t remember this.) We contacted PALS to get some information as it was difficult getting information from a busy ward.

Just at mum’s at the moment. She is worrying me with her spending as she’s rapidly working her way through savings and, despite berating herself, doesn’t seem able to address this. This isn’t helped by constantly buying stuff for others and giving to charity out of guilt. I’m feeling powerless as my suggestions are largely ignored.

Yes. I’ll discuss with my brother as I’m not sure he’s aware. I’m not seeking solutions, as it’s far from simple, just good to vent!

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
