You're right about Buttler TMW, he's wasted at number eight. As for the bowling, I'm unaware of any quality out and out fast bowlers in England (unless Finn can sort out his problems) so we have to make the most of what we have and as for the spin department, Moeen Ali is still developing so we should give him time. Any spinner that can bowl out India like he did last year has something about him and deserves to be persevered with.

hmmm, India away from home in a test match, most of the time they can't be arse. I'd agree, you coud have Buttler as you all rounder, play him at 6, then you can have Ali at 7, and 4 more bowers.

He has a back niggle...a breakdown waiting to happen in a test match.

Rankin is in great form at the moment, 'tis true.
If we're going to pick bowlers on their bowling ability, please can we apply the same logic to wicket-keeper? Buttler is an impressive batsman, but he can't catch. It's no good making 35* if you then miss a stumping, costing your side over 40 runs plus momentum, you're not really helping. Fine in 20:20 or 50 over cricket, where the odd wicket doesn't matter, but disastrous in Tests.

Indeed, name that wicket keeper though, they're all batsmen these days.
The problem was that he was batting at 8, behind Stockes!!! The bigger problem was that we got skittled out....

I don't suppose they'll go back to Ambrose, who has never let England down and is in great form (and can keep off a decent spinner), so it's a problem. Bedwetter may never play again (haven't heard any news lately) but wasn't even the best keeper at Somerset, Buttlerfingers can't catch, Davies isn't even keeping any more, Billings is too raw, Bairstow can't catch or play the short ball. Difficult, innit?

Very! it has been since, hmmm, blimey ages.
I'd go with Buttler, but further up the order. I'd also, Stick with Moeen and have root too, it's the two other seamers/swing/fastbowlers that are the problem, Stokes/Finn/Plunkett/Wood/Rankin, yu could perm any 2 from 5, and they would all make englands attack look samey.
