one flaw in your plan TRO is that the art of the slower ball yorker pinning a batter in front would also be eradicated. cairns/walsh/etc were absolute geniuses at those.
i reckon test cricket is fairly cyclical, and england are just in a big downswing just now. little quality batting, and without that pace attack would probably be on a par with the current windies side. which makes their next series more interesting....

Crikey some stats surprise: Root is the highest scoring batsman of either side.
Probably the next 10 are Australian, but still…..

TRO - he does have the massive advantage of guaranteed two innings each match

They docked Somerset points for excessive turn (I.e. nobody could play it). Never happens with excess seam movement. I agree to some extent with your argument, TRO,. You'd give your right arm for Cook' s limited scoring options though...

Any port in a storm Nico.
They sent the wrong team home I think.

First thing we need to do is employ a good genealogist and mine those South Africans and Australians for long lost English grandparents.

We need a six team domestic red ball competition that includes the current England players. Our talent is spread too thinly: If a team has one or two top bowlers they also have two or three trundlers, so once a batter sees off the decent bowler they can relax. It's no preparation for test cricket.

Thoroughly predictable outcome, sadly.
In general, the championship has too many teams. Either create 3 leagues of 6 from the 18, or 2 leagues of 8 and drop 2 into the minor counties. That or change the residency eligibility rules again
