And it's not as if England goes overboard on long series against the minnows. Certainly the team is too quick to fold under pressure, but it has had a decent share of wins too.

It may just be my impression, but take out the miraculous Stokes victory, how many of those tests were tight victories? I may be wrong, but my feeling is we only win when everything goes right, never in a nip and tuck contest

Batting is the major problem and only Root deserves a place with an argument to be made for Malian. The rest of the top 7 are not good enough. I know a case can be made for stokes but on current form he is not good enough with bat or ball. The bowling is not great but can do a job but relies too much on Anderson and probably needs archer to be fit. Wood and Robinson can be useful. Neither butler or Barstow are cutting it so Foakes maybe gets the nod as keeper. Quite who should be captain is anyones guess but clearly shouldn’t be root.
