The reason they take wickets is because the batting is mediocre. The reason that mediocre batsmen survive is all the good bowlers disappear off to national teams never to be seen again. And the reason the trundlemerchants aren't carted for 8 an over day in day out is all the good batsmen disappear off to national teams never to be seen again. Under the current structure, Championship cricket is mediocre by design. Bewailing the lack of talent is to miss the point. Anyone properly good in the county game is removed with unseemly haste.
flanker Dec 2021 2:08pm, 31 Dec 2021 20,215 posts	0 flanker and that's without the impact of everyone with any skill being more interested in making their fortune in the IPL, BB, 100 etc. And who can blame them: putting a million in the bank for your family is probably a higher priority than representing your country with your best performance in a test.
