But how do you fit in enough competitive four day games with Test players into a schedule along with one day tournaments to fund the structure of the game, franchise tournaments to make the players money and an overloaded Test schedule? Without burning out those Test players?

Test runs for England this year :
1708 - Root
1204 - Root in team's 1st inns
1047 - Root outside home
932 - Root vs India
876 - Root when won toss
832 - Root when lost toss

Definitely not! Once Silverwood gets hold of him full time he’ll be rotated in and out of the side, will get most of his scoring shots coached out of him and will, of course, shell everything in the slip cordon…
