A bit too early to be writing off this match. Hopefully the batting line-up are slighlty more upbeat than us.

I watched a bit during the lunch break, about JL Langer, and it showed Harmison giving him a bit of a going over on a couple of occassions.
Obv. Langer was good enough to deal with most of it but got caught a couple of times, and said it was a tough day.
Getting one on the elbow and one in the ribs, just stopped him doing what he wanted everytime, as he couldn't be sure what sort of ball he was going to get, as opposed to the current situation where they know it will be a line and length ball.
So lets mix up the delivieries and pick bowlers to suit the conditions.

So much for Flower's speech about changes and tough decisions. It boils down to Bresnan in for Monty which is not dramatic enough to win the match I guess.

Non match winning spin subbed for non match winning indifferent pace
Pointless
I'd never bet against England but 10 quid on the Aussies for 5 - 0 suddenly looks like it will make someone a few quid

Agree with bother DrK and G. I assumed tough decisions meant Swann out and Finn in and also to be at least considering Rankin and Balance for Monty (or Jimmy) and Prior. Bascially the decided not to play 2 spinners on a hard bouncy fast pitch.
Flower and selectors seem clueless and must go. Cook needs to drop the captaincy.
The Ashes is back over here in 18months time and I'm wondering if we need a clearout KP/Prior/Carberry/Swann/Monty/tremlett in prep for that.

Who should be captain though?
Needs to be an older head in my opinion and i'm not sure Broad is the man.

Brearley. At least he'd get the best out of the other 10 players, and hell, he could hardly be any worse with the bat could he....

If not Broad then how about Jimmy? He understands field settings and the pressure shouldn't affect his batting

I'd give the captaincy to Bell for 2 yrs and make Root or Broad vice with a view to a smooth handover of the reigns.
This game really needed a braver selection than we got, Cook has no one he can throw the ball to and say ' 5 overs, do some damage' even if they go for a few (I'm thinking Finn/Rankin) toothless attack and yet again the opposition are off the hook.
