Nephew is a football coach in China.
He was on a holiday in Cambodia when it all kicked off.
He was allowed to return to Beijing but only so he could catch a connecting flight home.
Currently has no idea when he can return to work.

Further to that, upon landing in Qatar to catch his flight back to the UK he was forced to wear a face mask for the time he was in the airport.

I've just received this email from my local Chinese.
Just a message of confidence during this terrible time of the outbreak of the corona virus. At hungry sparrow Chinese takeaway we have outstanding hygiene rating of 5, and our staff member are not from mainland China and have not travelled to and from mainland China in the past. So have confidence in ordering with us relax and enjoy!!!

I'm due to go to Hong Kong for 3 days on way to Oz in 4 weeks, I wouldnt normally be bothered, hygiene is key and wearing a mask over there is normal. However I've currently been laid low with a chest infection now a respiratory infection, my immune system is shot. To say I'm not mildly concerned....
Here's hoping they get something sorted soon. I know HK is keen to close their border to prevent contamination and my friends in HK are keeping me posted. I guess you can catch it here now we have confirmed cases.

At the moment there is no evidence of person to person transmission in the UK, all the people who've caught it did so in China. So no need to worry about catching it here for the moment.
Hong Kong does appear to have some person to person transmission going on but still at the sort of level where contacts can be identified to better control it. A friend living in HK says many HK-ers are currently working from home and minimising time out in groups etc which would also hopefully help prevent large scale transmission.

In answer to Jabberknit's question on previous page, the advice if you develop symptoms and been to China or had close contact (defined as <2metres for more than 15mins) is to phone 111 who will give advice or arrange appropriate response. Not to visit GP, urgent care centres or hospital.

Random thought... as I am travelling to HK, Oz & Singapore given I’ve currently got an infection of sorts and worrying if screening occurs at the airport do you think I could ask for/obtain something from the doctors to say it is not coronavirus?

I think that's a good idea gg, it's better to have something and not need it than the other way round

I can't think of anything GP could say that would help to be honest, other than a blood test that's negative for corona virus. Other that it's going to depend on travel history.

So today we went to town and popped into the travel agent. As things stand there is no restriction flying to and from Hong Kong. I explained why I was concerned to do with my current cold/flu/virus.
We can change but at our cost. We really don’t want too change and my friends have also confirmed that HK is ok.
We got AUS dollars but opted to go back just before we fly for HK dollars just in case things change.
Hope anyone with family or personal effect is safe.
