100% agree dibble. I WFH anyway so haven’t had to take any time off thankfully (I’m a contractor so don’t get paid for being off sick!) I’ve just extended my days a bit to allow for a couple of breaks when I couldn’t focus/concentrate/needed to shut eyes for a bit!

But yes, 4 years ago I also wouldn’t have even considered whether going out this weekend would be an issue, if I felt fine, which I assume I will do, I would just go! I’m also slightly nervous with coming back to exercise too fast after hearing all the terrible stories of people rushing back and being completely screwed over by Covid

We are keeping the toddler off school all week assuming he has it but if I hadn’t tested positive we would have sent him in 😳😳😳😳😳 as I wouldn’t have considered testing him he’s been no different to any other cold they seem to have 95% of their preschool life

Things are just different now. I’m not sure if they will ever quite go back to how they were

Agree with being cautious on exercise. If it reassures you, I managed to keep up with the club ride (although at the back) on Sunday which was my day 23 and felt close to normal at a 10km club run (day 25).

Yeah, paranoia strikes...
Mind, I think it is good people have become more cautious about going places while under the weather now. I have always been aware and cautious because what is a mere nuisance cold for me can be lethal for someone else. This whole culture of going to work regardless/not being a wimp has now changed.

I'm not sure it has though, for a lot of people, yes I'd agree, but doing what I do and talking to others, I know some a fair few people carry on regardless :( I'm not risking it because of the risk of passing it on, but get the impression that others just carry on.

Very faint positive for OH and still negative for me so hopefully dodged the bullet for now.

Fitness has taken a right nose dive and I have my appointment through for the respiratory clinic for next week.

As one of those people who might end up in A&E if I get hit by the wrong sneeze, I tend to notice this. And I think that - at my workplace, at least - iit's improved a little, although it's still not where it needs to be. There are a couple of the "I'm going in with a raging fever" variety who have become more circumspect - but there's still the ones that really don't care who catches what they've got. Part of it's organisational - the last 2 years have demonstrated that my entire group can do our jobs effectively from home, so it's become far acceptable to say "I'm well enough to work, but don't want to put vulnerable colleagues at risk, so I'll WFH today"

Whilst I am pleased that some are thinking twice about going into work when unwell, whatever it is.

(Covid is not the only killer/serious risk to the vulnerable)

However lots of sickness policies make this very difficult for many. With the risk of formal warnings and disciplinary action if you transgress sickness policy looming there is sometimes no viable option other than to drag yourself in 1/2 dead.
Fortunately since I had covid last Sept I have been well. However I had been off from Feb TO June last year with something else. Had I been ill between Sept and now I'd have had to have done everything possible to get into work or face disciplinary action. For me this would be unpleasant and stressful, potentially exacerbating other health issues, but not employment threatening. However exacerbation of other health issues could lead to further sickness....

Fortunately I only have to make it to the 4 June to then only face a written warning again. But it is a scary, stressful and real dilemma for many.

No matter how much some people care about not passing on whatever they are poorly with, they just have to drag themselves in.

It’s such a shame that people face disciplinary proceedings for genuine time off for illness. I know OH was the same in his job.

Thankful that where I work has a culture of generally being quite forgiving towards sickness (a lot of it is related to the nature of the work). I feel for those who aren’t as fortunate.
