While we're at it, can I suggest that it isn't the runners, walkers, cyclists, horse riders, skaters and the myriad others mentioned here.

It's the stopped, standing chatters who've suddenly met someone they know. They stop 2m apart and ... well, they aren't paying much attention to the world around them. Social distancing doesn't mean being anti-social, and having a chat is good or your mental health, have at it; but move to the same side of the pavement, road or path, would you?!

A few posts on FB in last 24 hrs suggest a change to the guidance/laws around driving to go exercise. Any thoughts from the well informed amongst you.

It's not a change, HP, it's a clarification. It was never banned but the police had been getting carried away.

The new guidance is to police in E&W but the same should apply in Scotland. (I am informed that they have closed off various carparks in Caithness where people often take dogs, one of which is a massive and usually deserted beach. On what authority, I don't know.)

It does say England only though - Wales introduced different laws I believe?

IIRC Wales has a specific once per day on the exercise written into the law. I've not heard of other differences but they may exist.

I did call someone in the Welsh govt as I need to drive from England to Wales to clear out my sons apartment (it's almost empty but not quite as we were interrupted by lockdown). My son had moved back home just before the lockdown and the empty flat was in its one months' notice. This guy said it would be fine as long as social distancing was observed. I am a tad nervous so might do it myself (I don't want him getting a fine)

That was the one that I knew about jda but I wasn't sure if there were any other differences.

So in theory I could drive to Aviemore (45 mins) to do a long walk in the hills and then drive home. I wouldn't do that though.

ITG they have closed a lot of car parks in Highland, including some of our local ones. The beach at Rosemarkie is very popular and I could see a lot of people driving from Inverness or reasonably locally when the weather is as nice as it currently is. The beach could become pretty busy and make social distancing a challenge (especially when the tide comes in)

Probably not necessary at Dunnet though 😕

About This Thread

Here are links to the LAW on the corona lockdown (England) to help you distinguish law, guidelines and random ranting at the telly and make informed and sensible decisions about exercising.

I will try to update if this changes.
