Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Apparently infection rate has dropped by about 1/3 in York in general, and more or less to half in University district compared to last week.

So maybe the idea of letting the "vulnerable to infection but largely unaffected otherwise" young adults get it will actually benefit us all in the long run, since the virus won't hopefully have that reservoir in future? Bit callous, I know.

The gov slides from the SAGE chaps on Saturday showed that the infection rate once up in the youth spread across other age groups readily. Could be other factors of course, but on the face of it, letting it run in a particular group won't just keep it to that group.

Our numbers are dropping in NE & my local council still giving regular positive updates but a lot of the figures in Durham and Newcastle were university which I would expect to lead to a drop overall. Zoe app keeps going up and down I presume from catch up data. I don’t trust any figures at all.

The global UK data yesterday showed total positive tests in last 7 days only 0.8% higher than teh previous seven days, which is a significant flattening even before lockdown

I always said take out uni’s which was a specific and understandable spike and it will level out. Hopefully that is the case.

Lockdown 2 will be nearer 6 weeks, up until just be Christmas to get the rates down as much as possible and allow some mixing over the next couple of weeks. We will be back in lockdown in January and it will last at least 3 months. Don't get your hopes up on anything being reopened until the R is well below 1 and the troublesome areas identified, as per Australia. That of course, will not happen, everything will be open as it was by mid-December and we'll be back in Lockdown 3 in March.

We need to find a balance, totally impossible of course as too many people cannot be trusted but I've seen a few friends recently post they have lost their jobs which is also not sustainable. worrying times.

All very worrying and I'm despairing at this 'lockdown eve' celebration

So the pubs and shops are rammed when we should have been in tier 3 :(
