Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I had a few of those disappearing notices early on not had any in a while. But very worrying that something so critical has been overlooked.

Agree Tim and GG. With my OH only I eat out regularly, use compliant cafes four or five times a week which are sometimes also pubs (don’t drink alcohol too often in pubs as so few carry imperial stout😊) and realised that since March I have only been within the definition of close contact maybe twice and that was with my sister in summer. I don’t work or have kids or close family nearby so the “going out” thing is my only risk (we don’t meet up with others) and my overall risk is hence a lot lower than some people’s who consider going out frivolous but might live with younger people or have workmates. It really is up to each of us to assess our own risk and not judge others for their choices.

Other than food shopping I have barely been in any setting externally:

- Ate lunch out once in the early days of hospitality re-opening
- Two cafe visits with my parents as we were banned from meeting indoors
- One visit to TK Maxx when they had the London Marathon kit

That's it unless you include the weekly visit to my MiL which includes taking her food shopping around.

On the shielding the vulnerable, I dont think thats practical as those vulnerable people need to come into contact with others. We for example need to take food in weekly. She wouldnt be capable of putting it away herself. She also has carers in 4 times daily. To shield her fully would put her at risk of a fall and she would be in hospital within a week.

Halloween was great here. People on the estate put out treats in envelopes with house numbers on them. Little kiddies just from the estate came round with their parents and simply collected their home's envelopes from the outside containers. I should say that there aren't that number of little uns, so was straightforward to organise through estate's Facebook page

Looks like the scottish infection numbers are going down which is good, but deaths are increasing but as we know that measure is a few weeks behind in showing any changes.

However noises seem to be that due to furlough uncertainty Nicola will place us into lockdown to make use of furlough while its there

That error in the code, whilst another screw up, isn't quite as bad as made out. If you were next to an infectious person for 15 minutes you'd still get the warning as expected.

Just they meant to be sending warnings if you'd been next to them for only 3 minutes, but nobody knew this was the criteria they were meaning to use. So it was still working as we expected... just not as it had been meant to operate. If you were next to someone the app determined to be only a potential cause of infection then you'd have missed the notice to isolate as designed unless you were with them for a very long time rather than the 15 minutes...but you'd have been getting a heap of the "you may have been exposed" messages so would surely be alert to the fact that you are doing risky things.

Not great for another app related screw up, but not quite the disaster the headlines imply.

baz - yeah, my guess is NS might pull a 10/14 day circuit breaker at the end of the month to make 100% sure she can get the dollar from westminster to pay for it. if done properly it would probably keep the R down around/slighty below 1, and might give a bit of breathing room on numbers for xmas. if my uber uber cautious partner says she won't keep to the tier 2 rules for the 25th, there's feck all chance most people will.

Here's hoping that NS doesn't take Westminster's crumbs and sticks with the 2nd November levels.

Tim, the cynic in me fears that when there is a chance to take action and blame Westminster, then its too good an opportunity to be missed.

I would have to respectfully withdraw that view if we put the higher regions in the west into lockdown but resisted for other parts of the country. Arguably that would be proper leadership and decision making
