The new REACT study is out from Imperial College and they've again got some silly headlines based on bogus analysis. The level of infection has roughly doubled (a little more) in 3 weeks but they claim based on analysis of a very short section at the end of the full time series that the *current* doubling time is 9 days. This is plainly silly, the last few days of data are simply not enough to pin down the doubling time with any precision and this result is inconsistent with the longer data set. The real take-home message that they should have emphasised is that infections are still rising at a significant rate (and have reached a worrying high level with over 1% testing positive) but there's no reason to think that the growth rate has increased recently. If anything, it is easing off a little. |

So if ‘you’ were in charge of decisions what would you do? How would you work to get back control? How would you deal with non conformance? How would you simplify the message to make compliance easy?

Tim, Going back a few pages, and I think you are over thinking it. All you need to is join your local working mens or conservative club (or others), assuming licensing laws are similar in Scotland to England? bbc.co.uk ( Preston Council posted advice stating membership based social clubs "do not sell alcohol, instead they supply alcohol to their members". ) Would Nicola get away with cloing 'low life pubs' but keeping 'posh eateries' open? Not even Boris would attempt that, would he ? (although they did miss the HoP bar out to start with). |

As we're seeing in other parts of Europe, there really isn't a way of putting a lid on it short of full lockdown backed up by the authorities enforcing compliance through the full weight of the police etc. because most of us can't be trusted.

the social club loophole was closed today - the difference between a certificate and a license for alcohol has been removed and both now count. No alcohol without a substantial meal in whichever tier that rule applies to covers social clubs too.

We've had the alcohol restrictions up here in Scotland for a few weeks now. Seems sensible to me. But maybe I'm being selfish because I don't drink alcohol! Surely when drinking (not falling over drunk) inhibitions, judgement etc are reduced and therefore a higher risk?
