Big Chinese trade at Bicester Village, apparently.

I remember when it was just an outlet village. I bought a nice Paul Smith shirt there, and a beautiful pair of checked trousers that I was wearing the night I met my wife.

OVERTHELAST, according the The Press, it was 30,000 people at York Races! Funnily enough, no York (Knavesmire) parkrun as a result although the racing didn't start until 2.05 in the afternoon. (I listened to Rick Astley, and McFly on Saturday, from in my garden whilst having a nice sociable chat with friends. :-) )

There were reports of "unusually high" levels of violence in the city centre on Saturday night, almost certainly alcohol fueled. :-(

I suspect the same alcohol intake might have resulted in a drop in the social distancing and other Covid precautions, but it'll be hard to trace any impact because people will have attended and then dispersed widely across the North of the country for the event.

OVERTHELAST
There was quite literally no social distancing at all Marky, but most people were outside and given the weather the bars all had their French windows and doors wide open. I'm sure you're right about the alcohol, a lot of people were tanked up even on the bus to the course, particularly the stag/hen do's, although at that point it was all good humoured. Some lads even offered me and the missus their seats, must be looking old!

They can't have a parkrun when racing is on due to the presence of horses cantering in the grounds, plus loads of other stuff, TV vehicles, catering trucks, ambulances, hospitality, vet vehicles etc, plus the risk of sneak-ins. They start preparing for the day from about 5am.

Glad you enjoyed the music. Astley was very emotional, it was his first concert for 18 months and he was almost crying. I wasn't a fan until I heard his rendition of Highway to Hell! it was a good show.

LN, oh no, hope symptoms stay mild. I take my phone everywhere so I use the timeline on Google Maps to remind me where I’ve been. I think you already need to have location services switched on, but just in case you do have, it’s a good prompt.

My friend went to Newcastle races on Saturday she said it was awful only a very tiny handful (herself & partner included) in masks indoors. The course had tables for 6 set but within a short time people were dragging them into big groups shouting hugging and generally rowdy.

On way back to town intending to go for a couple of drinks she said the bars were packed younger people were particularly bad so they went to hotel her words it was like this had never happened.

It is outside it has to be safer but it’s sad the relaxation has meant venues can’t keep people in check.

Just spoke to a colleague in Adelaide they are in lockdown as they had 5 positive cases and included 4000 people being put in a quarantine hotel who were deemed more at risk of spreading. Mind blowing.

Listening to "the numbers" it does feel like were running neck and neck between the benefits of the vaccine, and the new infections.

Hopefully when we get to the tape it'll be the vaccine out in front by a clear length or three.

(Although I'm really not sure where the tape actually is, any more....)

From twitter:

Mike Buckley @mdbuckley Jul 26
Johnson reportedly 'raging' about young people not getting vaccinated in large enough numbers but he's spent 18 months telling young people Covid doesn't affect them, and refuses to vaccinate teens for the same reason and because he claims falsely that vaccines aren't safe

------

I do hope one day under 18s are offered the vaccine. The current situation is absurd. Nobody has to have it, but our current policy is contradictory and has literally no advantages for anyone.

Well here's a thing....
yorkpress.co.uk

TLDR: A number of UK government ministers have expressed concern over the possibility of coronavirus spreading through flatulence.

At least most people wear a fabric layer over their behinds.

Although it seems to suggest that public toilets are a cause for concern. (Personally, I find public toilets a bit concerning anyway....)
