Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I tried Merlin for the first time today, just waiting at my gate to be picked up...

Willow Warbler that I could see and was absolutely giving it some welly.
Also, sparrow, wren, skylark and linnet.
I heard a curlew but the app didn't pick it up.

Thank you GimmeMedals for talking about this on FB, to SarahWoo for telling me what it was called and Mandymoo for then directing me to the thread, looking forward to finding out who is singing songs when I'm out and about.

I think the gulls must be after the oystercatcher chicks as there is one hellava racket going on outside our hotel room!

I have been getting very distracted on my runs which is actually nice as I am taking in more of what is around me. I have discovered 4 birds this morning I hadn't heard of before:

Linnet
Greater Whitethroat
Dunnock (that I would have probably presumed was a sparrow)
Blackcap

and found on our local fells we have Willow Warblers, Reed Buntings

Greater whitethroat was a new one on me the other week (and, I think, on McGoohan too according to his blog, in his part of the country.) How come this bird which is apparently quite common, was unknown to quite a few of us? Has it changed its name from something else??

I think the Greater Whitethroat, is the Common Whitethroat, the lesser Whitethroat is the rare one.

Interesting. Merlin picked up a Lesser Whitethroat earlier this week in rural Pembrokeshire. I couldn’t see it though.

I didn’t know there was a whitethroat so I’ll stand to your expertise

About This Thread

Maintained by Mandymoo
I am a bit of a geek and love listening to the bird song

I use the Merlin app all the time and the grandsons now also love it too.

We are lucky that our garden is full of birds, and the wonderful songs (apart from the seagulls)

Would love to see what others hear on their walks
