Folks - just posted this on a bike forum, but any trusted Fetchie views MUCH appreciated I'm starting cycling from a marathon background, with a couple of triathlons this summer. Looking to get a road bike for riding and racing on, for around a grand. The downside is that it has to be from Evans due to Cycle to Work scheme that my work has put on. Otherwise I'd be straight in for a Focus Cayo or Planet X. Can you experienced folk give me your views on which of these are likely to be the best to get. I guess if two or three come out most tipped I'll go down to Evans and try them out. Trek 1.7 / 1.9 Trek XO 1 Spec Allez Elite Spec Roubaix Elite Bianchi 1885 105 / Veloce Bianchi C2C Via Nirone Ultegra & 105 / Veloce Felt F75 Felt Z70 Anything else I should be considering? Of the above I have no bias at all, other than the fact the BIanchi looks like a fine machine! I like the granite/silver 1885!! I apologise that this question probably gets asked all the time.... |

Bikeradar your cycling forum of choice BB? I've not tried any of these but I'd go for the Roubaix. I've heard Felt fly down hills quite well when thrown off the side. Bianchis look lovely, but Greg may be along later to say that they don't look great with tri bars if you decide to put them on. |

I love my Bianchi via Nirone to bits but one thing I would check out first is getting yourself measured. The geometry of the Specialized/Bianchi frames are slightly different and thus so will some of the other manufactureers be slightly different too. Dependant upon the ratio of the length of your upper to your lower leg, one of them might be more right for you than the other. I was fitted and measured by a guy who was trained by Bianchi's fitter who knew his onions properly. So get a fitting, then choose the bike whose geometry suits you best. A. |
