My Speccy came with Aksiums and they were ok, but I managed to get hold of a second hand pair of Ksyriums so swapped them. The front hub is fairly worn now, so I'm not sure how much longer it will last. If i can find a decent second hand front (can't afford new!) then I'll swap the pair out to the new CF bike. The Ultegras are newer and much less worn and all set up to go. I'd need to do a cassette swap too as the Speccy is a 9 spd and the CF a 10.

I wish I went for standard Hope 32 spoke wheels as I don't race so not bothered about the weight saving and when a if a spoke does snap on the ultegra's the wheel is unrideable. But I must admit the Ultegra is a nice wheel set especially for the money I got them for.

I saw a pair of wheels at LBS this week. Hope anodised red hubs with bladed spokes and Mavic cxp 22 rims, priced around 400 notes or less fully built. Disc option available too,, looked very nice with red flecks on the rims adding to the effect. Tempted...

They sound like an interesting fusion of old and new DaiBank. Regarding the Ultegras, baring races went on mine after not a great many miles. I've had more luck with cheaper Shimano wheels. |

Sounds like I made the right choice with the Aksiums then!

Next daft question! hand going numb on bars. bear in mind I ride pretty much in the drop position and have double the weight. My first thoughts are to lift the bars up on the spacers. Hints/tips? |

I'm not an expert on fit - quite the opposite and i've even been blogging recently about how some other cyclist said my saddle was too high. Having said that my bike fit is mostly about balance and is set up so that drops/hoods are a comfy position without much weight going through the hands. The bike fit guy I used is Tim Williams perfectcondition.ltd.uk - A lot of his theory stuff is on his website as is a review of what he does from cycling weekly (and his reply to it) - it might give you some ideas or it might even be worth popping to see him. I thought of it because the cycling weekly article uses the term "un-weighting on the handlebars" which stuck in my mind and that sounds like exactly what you are wanting. Click on "wisdom" then on "more on bike fitting (cycling weekly article)' to see what I mean. The local rag even wrote about him awhile ago. cambridge-news.co.uk |
