Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

No Garmin for me, sorry folks.

I've done a couple of sessions with bench press since last comment on being stuck* at 60kg and tactically how to move forward. Thanks @Gooner and others for advice and ideas. My linear progression routine is for 3 sets of 5 reps. So here's how I intend to do it.

Stick with target weight across all sets, and if (when) can't make 5 reps, add additional sets to make up total volume. Even if I end up doing singles. Then I get used to heavier weight and have done planned volume. It's much like switching from 3 sets of 5 to 5 sets of 3 on a heavy day in a heavy/medium/light programme.

* got to say I'm only relatively stuck and in no way discouraged. At my age progress is bound to be slow, but I'm seeing it in both lifting and in running. Temporary sticking points are inevitable. So no complaints here.

I'm sooooo sore after doing first Body Pump for a couple of years on Thu night, and cross country today did not go well, with tired legs and a sore back! I guess even with super light weights, doing moves that I haven't done for a while too its toll! :-) G

I don't understand why nearly every time I have some sort of DOMS it causes me issues sitting down on the toilet. Is there science behind this, I wonder?

It's because it's funnier that way, Quimby. ;-)

A slightly more successful session today with the preset workout set up on the watch with rest where they were supposed to be. I then got the option to edit the sets during the rest, which is a much better plan.

Unfortunately I missed the bit about pressing stop to confirm the edit (pressing stop during an activity has always been a big no-no previously!) so I still had to do it again afterwards but now I know and I'll be better again tomorrow.

It is a bit counter intuitive coming from cardio activities but you get used to it.

I've had about a week off from weights due to water rescue training last week into night shifts and having some form of germs colonise me since then. Hoping to go for a run tomorrow and get back on it by the end of the week though so doms doesn't have the chance to creep back in...

I don't use the watch beyond timing my session

Well that was almost perfect. I was able to edit the reps in the rests and I even upped the weight on push press and was able to edit that "live" too after the first couple of sets.

I find that I get lost counting to 4 sets when I'm not concentrating so the watch with a preset session is ideal for keeping me on track @Gobi. It might be just a novelty as I've only had this option on the new watch since last Thursday!

You've got a better brain than me, @Gobi. I'm the same in the pool. Even with a workout set up on the watch I'll have to keep checking how many lengths I've actually done!

When swimming I get my garmin to bleep every 100m so I know roughly where I am
I never properly managed a swim workout 🤷‍♀️
I’ve not tried a programmed strength workout
