After swittle's blog last night, I figured we could gather here and see how it goes...

I'll go first, if you like. I used to go to the gym a bit. Then, for a while, I went to the gym quite a lot. These days I haven't held a weight for years but I keep meaning to get back into it. I'm particularly envious of my Young Lad's routine (and dedication) but it seems I need more support (or a sharper boot up the Aris').

A while ago I bought a couple of books. The New Rules of Lifting for Life and Starting Strength (Basic Barbell Training). I've just blown the cobwebs and dust off them and will have a wee look to see if they make any sense.

I’ve been drawn into the “functional strength” stuff which I’m finding much more engaging than the isolation exercise bodybuilding type stuff I’d tried before.

I do deadlift, back squat, clean, bench press, overhead press and pull ups. 5 x 5 of each, but only 3 of the lifts at a time and rotating them. Pull ups are every session.

In theory a couple of sessions a week but it’s not that consistent to be honest.

Wow that was quick :-)

Right then, i've been in and out of the gym over the years, but i do like it and certainly feel the benefit of going.

Unfortunately it's been non existent since the start of covid. My son is keen (although only 10) and we have a few dumbells and a bench - we're asking for more for Christmas.

When he can actually go to the gym i;m sure he will, and i'd like to go too, just don't seem to have the time for it, blah blah blah
