Interesting question ER. My view is that you need to stop thinking about and and just accept that it is something you do now and will always do, because it will benefit you hugely as you get older. As an aside, perhaps you could find a whole sessions worth of exercises that you don't do at all now, and start those. They may complement your target lifts or goals so improving those by stealth or be completely different say only bodyweight exercises, so dips, pull ups, press ups etc etc Hope you find something that works |

@EarlyRiser I’m not a competitive lifter. I lift, and train in Calisthenics, for strength in other sports. You are correct though in that looking at your goals, whether it’s a WAVA PB, or a race time, or general health and well being can be used to alter your lifting training and goals. At least, that’s how I do it.

@lammo - "something you do now and will always do". That's a different idea, I like it. Laying down a habit for the long term. And we also have goals, maybe medium-term? to review and revise? Switch in/out programming/exercises another method. All good things to keep in mind. Should keep us on the straight and narrow ...

well, it's ho ho ho merry christmas to my gym; the owners have decided they deserve a third two week holiday of the year. It really pisses me off, but I'm not walking away as I don't have many options |

That's really frustrating Mac, have you got anything at home that you use, or does there need to be a cardio focus? I was miffed, in principle, that my nationwide 24hr access gym was closing on Christmas day I've been pretty consistent over the last year, and making progress, although you may not be able to see much of a change, i am stronger, so i'll be continuing. |

I've got some stuff at home, I think I can go to 45kg on the bar, so it'll be lots of reps

That's frustrating! Mr Ness and I have a home gym and he likes to lift heavy so there's plenty of weights here. We probably won't do any weight training on Xmas Day. Christmas eve and boxing day more likely though.

All my “lifting” for the last month or so has been rehab/prehab. It’s he physio has prescribed me a lot of posterior chain work to build up my lower back/hip hinging for rowing and I’m trying to do that all 2 or 3 times a week. Deadlifts, hip thrusts, hamstring bridge, glute bridge, bird dogs, inverted rows. Nothing exciting but so far it seems to be working, alongside a lot of mobility stuff. I’m off visiting the in-laws for a few days and I’ve set up a pay-as-you-play membership at a council gym/pool round the corner. Never used it before so I’m hoping it’s a decent set up and I can keep moving. @Maclennane it’s a bit of a commute but you can use my shed any time you like mate. |

Thanks Nellers. I've probably got enough here, and there's an ex colleague who seems to be lifting about the same as me who's suggested doing some workouts at the gym he uses in Andover I should probably focus on getting some running done |

Hope that improves soon Nellers. Being at the gym encourages me to do more stretching, which i've also found to be beneficial. |
