Cheers. It's one of the types that a google search had bought up.

My youngest is home for a few days and got me in the shed doing his version of weights. Took nearly an hour and we did 12 sets in total, split between pull ups, bench, and inverted rows with dumbbells. Fun for a change of pace but I think I’ll be back to my somewhat more time-efficient stuff in future. |

Three and a bit months out, with some bits done on the cables, and the bench press test suggests I'm down a bit less than 20%. Quite happy with that

FYI: don't drop a 15kg plate on your big toe, even from a little height. That was the signal for me that I'd done enough and it was time to head home. As I'm struggling with a knee injury that I really. must. get. sorted. out. this. winter, I've started to put a bit more consistency into my weight sessions. I'm not looking for a Ryan Hall style transformation mensjournal.com (especially since I'm 20 years older than him), but I'm enjoying the feeling that I'm bucking a trend for the over-60s. Overcame bit a threshold in the bench press this afternoon, did a warm up and then thought, I wonder if I can add a bit more to the bar for my reps today? Yes. Onward... |

Sounds like a mixed session Similar here, back up to 110kg on bench, but can barely pull a 45kg sled |

I’m at six months and more now lifting weights twice a week, hour and a half a session, five barbell lifts 3 sets of 5. Running a linear progression and still eking out minor gains. Problem is I’ve been here before 2 or 3 times now the past few years. I almost expect some ‘life event’ to roll up as a post-hoc rationale for why I stopped lifting. I like to think I’m more resistant to abandoning this time around. After all, I “feel” and am stronger which is after all for me the whole point. But even so… What do you do, tactically? big picture? that keeps you going year on year? |

Change your routine if it's getting stale, change the exercises, frequency, reps. Do something to make it more interesting to you again.

Depends what my goals are and whether I’m off season or pre comp. 8 weeks out from a competition looks very different to 6 weeks out which looks different to 4 weeks out etc. All of that looks very different to off season lifting. There’s no hard & fast answer as training’s dictated by the goals I have & which qualities I’m trying to develop. |

Thx @Gooner. Yeah I shifted to HLM (high-medium-low) programming on a previous period of training. I'm kind of holding it like a joker this time around. Pull it out when I think I'm really stuck. But it's a tactical solution isn't it? What's the mindset to keep on and on? @Have yourself Musashi lil Christmas you're competitive in lifting which I'm not. But I get what you mean, I could look at age standards (like WAVA in running) and set medium and/or long-term goals that ought to be achievable. |

Maybe something like you suggest there, depending on what lifts you generally do, either set individual targets or a combined one. In the past I have set myself a combined deadlift, squat, bench and OHP target to allow something to aim for whilst giving leeway if any particular lift plateaus for a while. |
