Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Pull ups are definitely easier I can report - but also play havoc with my tennis elbow.

Pull-ups are for bootnecks (and toddlers). Chin-ups are for Crabs, and other mortals.

Muscle-up anyone?!

We should have a prejudice-off - Policing's hatred of Trumpton vs the Army's hatred of, well, just about everyone else.

So here’s a thing. Just back from the gym (three days on the trot - go me). As I was getting changed to go home a young painfully healthy looking chap came in, got changed into gym kit then took out a letter from the Royal Navy which started ‘dear candidate’ and had a table which, at a guess, had target times for thing for qualification to something or other.

Chap looked very focused so I didn’t ask.

Most of the armed forces and "first responders" have some sort of basic fitness requirements for entry. I worked with a lad a few years ago who was looking to get into the army as an officer and he was going to the gym to get his run time for whatever distance it was down and to get good at press ups and sit ups.

I've just had a quick google. To get in to the RN as a rating you need to be able to run 2.4km in better than 12:16.

Ooh, now there's a google rabbit hole I shouldn't have gone down. I bet he's going into the Marines:

"Since June 2021, the PJFT+ has resumed being conducted at Nuffield Health Gyms across the country under the assessment of a Physical Training Instructor.

The circuit conducted for the test includes:

20 x burpees
30 x sit ups

20 x press ups

1 minute plank
You will have to complete the full PJFT+ circuit three times. On completion of the three circuits, and after a two-minute recovery, you will have to perform one set of five pull ups. "

Oooh. My gym's a Nuffield. I'll ask my PT.

JRFT for (Essex) Police is hideously non-challenging. I'll dig it out when I get back to work next week if it's not readily publicly available.

That about 1.5 miles at 8:10s, give or take?
