It's the Witcher that I'm really interested in. I feel like I'm ready to get involved again in a game that absolutely demands devotion of my life!

Quite keen on the idea of Alien: Isolation as well.

Spleen
I was disappointed by Alien Isolation. Possibly I am playing too impatiently, but too often it feels as if I get found by the Alien without having done anything wrong and no chance of escape, resulting in a frustrating return to the checkpoint.

I was hoping it was going to be like an Alien version of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Now that is one of the most inspired games I have played in years. It's one or two levels too long but no game has ever been as successful in creating a "horror" atmosphere - both in terms of set-pieces and in the atmosphere of dread that exists even when you aren't under threat. At the same time it always felt "fair" - when I got killed I always felt that it was because I'd not been careful enough. The same might be true when I die in Alien Isolation, it just didn't feel that way.

After decades (depressing that is) of playing on consoles/computers I seem to have become a mostly mobile gamer now. I have a PS4 and am on PS+ so get the "free" games each month but I would say my monthly gaming time on the system is down to single digit hours now. Managed to plough though the latest Dragon Age at the start of the year but since then I have basically played a few games for a couple of hours each.

Mobile gaming is a bit different, as I do stuff during the quiet time at work. Spent far too much time on Marvel Puzzle Quest and also Future Fight. Currently a bit hooked on Fallout Shelter.

If anyone is interested in gaming generally, two podcasts worth your time are the Giant Bombcast and the Beastcast. Both are pretty terrific.

Anyone read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline? I really enjoyed it (ok, the audiobook). Synopsis:

---
It's the year 2044, and the real world has become an ugly place. We're out of oil. We've wrecked the climate. Famine, poverty, and disease are widespread.

Like most of humanity, Wade Watts escapes this depressing reality by spending his waking hours jacked into the OASIS, a sprawling virtual utopia where you can be anything you want to be, where you can live and play and fall in love on any of ten thousand planets. And like most of humanity, Wade is obsessed by the ultimate lottery ticket that lies concealed within this alternate reality: OASIS founder James Halliday, who dies with no heir, has promised that control of the OASIS - and his massive fortune - will go to the person who can solve the riddles he has left scattered throughout his creation.

For years, millions have struggled fruitlessly to attain this prize, knowing only that the riddles are based in the culture of the late twentieth century. And then Wade stumbles onto the key to the first puzzle.

Suddenly, he finds himself pitted against thousands of competitors in a desperate race to claim the ultimate prize, a chase that soon takes on terrifying real-world dimensions - and that will leave both Wade and his world profoundly changed.
---

Masses of 80s and 90s pop culture and video game references throughout and really good

Yep, I read it on holiday, after a recommendation (and the same person lending it to me!). I enjoyed it - lots of cool references :-) Worth a go!

Herman - I'm the same. My mobile gaming has taken over from PS3 gaming in a big way. I'm currently second in command of a rather unruly alliance in Marvel: Contest of Champions, and I have three separate word games downloaded for a daily puzzle...

As it has been mentioned here a few times, Witcher 3 (PS4 version), plus all expansions, is 30% off in the PSN store for a week. So £32 for the game, £50 for the game plus all expansions.

I don't have the time for it, but have £25 in credit on the store so am mightily tempted...
