Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

We used to play the Catan card game a lot and Dr S usually beat me! Now we seem to turn to San Juan more often for a two-player territory building game.

Played Terraforming Mars 3 times over the weekend... loved the game mechanics and it plays well. Last game made me very frustrated as the 'luck' of the card draw seemed to overpower any mechanics. Maybe it was because I lost again... but it did just seem that I drew cards that did little to advance my position. Will have to play it again I think!

This card drawing thing and the fact that the game is just overcomplicated for no other reason than it can, put me off the game.

I've played it twice and not a fan.

I've played three games of Terraforming Mars - the first time I enjoyed massively despite doing nothing of note for the entire night. The second time, one of the players spent an age over every turn and it just took forever (I think some ASD traits - but even so it was an immensely frustrating experience), and the last we were drafting the cards, and it was quickly apparent who would be winning the game - but I was nearly asleep in my pint before we got close to the endgame.

Not a fan due to these poor experiences.

I've been looking at TM each time I've been into our local games shop - I think I've just gone off it!

I think the problem with the game is that there are two many routes to victory which just leads to confusion and it's about twice the length in terms of time that it needs to be.

Far better drafting games out there, and far better complex games out there too.
