I was definitely part of the pole gang today - lots of people had them. I felt a bit self conscious for about 2 minutes and then quite got into it and stopped gripping the handles for dear life!

I have recently started using them and they definitely help decrease the strain in my knees when going up/down hills

I'm not against poles in principle, but from a practical point of view - when I walk, I'm usually connected to a dog that pulls on the lead. The last thing I need is another thing to try to control

I think the only thing more dangerous than a dog and poles would be having a dog on a lead whilst you're on a bike.

That's why I've not tried them before - dog is always on a lead. But he's not up to pulling me uphill anymore, so time to give sticks a go.
