Other than practising with them round a big field by the Mersey (few people around!) I think I'll only be using them for hills and for rough ground and some longer hikes I have planned. The ones I've ordered are folding ones um and I don't use my hands much I don't think (particularly at the moment). Thanks for all the comments folks. Out again today DT? |

Purps
I had to get my crutches out 2 weeks ago for a day, having seen people talking about walking poles in the hEDS group I'm in and seeing it here I wondered about maybe trying them. Are there any that are to be avoided?

I’m a total beginner with them purps and have only tried them in the living room so far! So I’m not the one to give advice, although the ones I got were £20 from Amazon, fold up, are light and seem sturdy. I’ll let you know when I’ve tried them properly over the weekend.

I bought a pair of poles during lockdown ( you know nothing to do looking on Amazon ) I have used them twice & I did find I was walking faster & the arm movement probably worked my upper body more than normal so definitely going to be using them regularly. |

I went out for a very hilly 4 miles along some steep, rough ground today and regretted not taking my walking poles. I feel safer with them; more steady on my feet, more balanced when going downhill and less likely to slide on loose stones.

Watching with interest re poles. I am due to do Beachy Head marathon as a walker this October and am considering buying a pair due to my track history- although saying that I was on a flat path last year when I went over and badly sprained my ankle!!!

Is Beachy still going ahead WP? I’d love to do that one (also as a walker) one day.
