I've started listening to the NME Top 50 (from prev page), from 50 onwards. Listened to Beabadoobee and liked it a lot

Just enjoyed Gary by Blossoms. I've always avoided the band as their name is beyond twee, but appears I like a lot of their music.

Are they the band who did the team-up with Rick Astley?

Yes, apparently he's in the video for the title song.

Sebastian Bach must win the award for album cover of the year. I don't quite know where to start with this - and the Amazon page allows you to zoom in and see it in more detail. amazon.co.uk

Gone back to the Cindy Lee double cd/triple lp "Diamond Jubilee" (which is at the top end of many end of year lists) after reading Galaxie 500's drummer Damon Krukowski reviewing/musing on it next to his musings on Taylor Swift's two hour(!) lp. dadadrummer.substack.com

"The antimatter pair to...Taylor Swift" he describes it, talking about how Jack Antonoff's production (of Taylor Swift) is instantly recognisable with a lack of space and "a flat, featureless soundscape with one lone figure, singing words", whereas the Cindy Lee one is "all over the place" (in the best possible way).

Was just thinking that as a fuzz guitar solo just seared my ears off. It brings to my mind Joe Meek's mid 60s productions (which are amazing), I'm not always sure of such pastichery but it sounds so ennervatingly alien in the current climate, a real one off.

About This Thread

Maintained by McGoohan
As a spin-off from Joopsy's excellent Albums of 2022 thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/albums-of-2022-62537/ this is a new thread where we commit to listen to one new album a week in 2023. Allowing a couple of weeks off for life commitments etc, that's 50 albums in the year.
EDIT - new and improved (i.e. exactly the same) for 2024
