Don't think I said, but I saw Sam Morton in an onstage chat with Mark Kermode earlier this year. He'd got her on due to her acting background of course but she was then promoting her album and tour. IIRC she said the record company insisted they use her name rather than call the band some abstract name, so she became Sam rather than Samantha to distinguish her two careers.

I'll give both Vera Soul and Sam Morton a try today.

I really thought Vera Sola may have been my favourite album of the year until Rosali came along but now it's Sam Morton.

It's sort of an autobiographical concept album I'd say travelling through her childhood in an abusive family to child homes and finding peace through God.

Really enjoying Mabe Fratti album today. @Chrisull no rhyme or reason why you came to my mind as somebody who may enjoy it 🤷‍♀️

@MaT.T - but you're right I am a fan already - must have mentioned her before somewhere in this thread as she's pretty prolific.

I've got 2 from last year, but there were even more (collaborations) I believe. But yeah she's inventive and great.

With Le Tour in full swing I've not had too much time for new records but this week's obsession is Loma - How Will I Live Without a Body. Interestingly this has in part been written in conjunction with an AI trained on the work of Laurie Anderson, I'm not sure how I feel about this, but it is a bloody good record. A brave new world indeed, just one I don't fully understand.

I too have been listening to the Loma album @ . Great album, better than I was expecting.

Someone mentioned the new King Hannah album earlier - that's really good too.

About This Thread

Maintained by McGoohan
As a spin-off from Joopsy's excellent Albums of 2022 thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/albums-of-2022-62537/ this is a new thread where we commit to listen to one new album a week in 2023. Allowing a couple of weeks off for life commitments etc, that's 50 albums in the year.
EDIT - new and improved (i.e. exactly the same) for 2024
