Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

sorry to hear you've caught the lurgy Steve, def rest up. Enjoy the holiday LL, the running will come when you're back. I

Well done on your social chatty run hs.

Its a lovely day here too FF so going to do a double today, both short - lunchtime mainly incase my mam decides she's not running later :)

Been looking back at my training log, I have only done 6 runs of over 10m since July!! and the longest was 13.5. I must get my act together with a marathon coming up in a few weeks. I think winter months are not lending themselves for longer runs. I have a couple of longer run routes so I may give one a go this Friday.

GG that's not very good not doing long runs when you have a marathon, however, the double run days should help you. Just be careful increasing your distance, I was told 10% at a time to prevent injury.

yeah I will be careful with the increase. I have a 1m/hour run planned in a couple of weeks while the mileage will be higher than a 10% increase it will be a very low effort run I'm not concerned about the marathon I know I can get round and none of my runs/races will be PB effort

Well done FF for your 5.5 miles.

GG, when I ran the virtual London Marathon in 2021 in the New Forest, my longest training run was 21 miles, and 3 weeks before. It was tapering from thereon. It was a 17 week build up. Tuesdays and Sundays were rest days. Hope that is useful.

when I did the virtual LM in 2020 (or was it 2021? it was the 1st one!)
I got to 8m I think then forgot about it!
I did 26.2m in a very slow agonizing time and felt every mile for weeks after!
I don't recommend that training plan

Good runs there hs and FF .

Yeah, having to be sensible with this lurgy, did weights yesterday instead.
It's always important to train properly/specifically, especially when distances increase. Any short cut plan for a marathon is a route to being uncomfortable. For a decent outing I'd reckon on three twenty miles leading up to it with appropriate build up and taper. hs marathon build up looked good

Almost glad I "can't" run this morning, it's pouring with rain again!

The 3 days in Kielder are training runs for my WHW attempt in September I only signed up last week and December I wasnt in the right frame of mind for long stuff with life/work/cancelled op.

While its not ideal to only have 10 weeks to train for a marathon its not out of my ability to run that distance so I am fairly relaxed about it. The b2b sessions will be the most helpful and the double run days keep me going on tired legs. My coach is comfortable with my plan and I'm adding in an extra rest day - normally run 6 days dropping to 5 but more effort on the runs.

My 55k in a day run is also over a 10hr period and def no pressure for pace just miles in my legs, there will be walking :)

There's no problem in you completing your challenges GG it's just how comfortable it all is for you, we know that you have the grit and determination. It's good your coach isn't bothered and that's a good idea about dropping a day for recuperation but upping the effort.

To my surprise I’m on track for this although my target is 802 (28,000 lifetime).

GG, it certainly seems a good idea to reduce your training to a 5 day week, which is what we did for our virtual marathon in 2021.

Foxy, I'm not sure that I understand your post. Do you mean that your running target for this year is 802, and 28,000 miles run to date, or have you accidentally posted on this thread in error?

I ran 5 x 1k this morning with 2.5 minutes walk recoveries, the first 2 with a running friend.
