Set out to attempt 5k walk/run - less than 1k in and my legs feel like they're on fire. Looks like it's going to be a walk.

Oh dear Andy.

LL, you could add a mile or two to each of your runs without compromise as long as the efforts aren't lost.
I won't enter races for the 'fun' of them because I don't have the spare cash, I only enter 'target' races to race them. Things may change in the future.

Catching up LL? You are well on track for 1,000 aren't you?! If you're behind on a training schedule for a race I believe that coaching recommendations don't go for catching up on "miles" but maybe fit in a bit more quality.
Hey FF, cranking up to seven when you've been finding stuff tough might be too far too soon. Slow, measured incremental increases might be best. No rush! Glad you're back..so stay on track.
Like you, at least in my historical running past, races were " races" and spending money I didn't have for the fun of it wasn't an option so a target race was always special.
Not everyone's approach though and the social/fun elements are very valid if that's their thing and, after all without those runners events are not quite the same.

A lot of good running going on and good to see that FF is making a comeback.

Week 13 of our marathon training schedule, and this morning was probably the hottest day of the year. We ran/walked 18 miles on multi terrain. It was really tough, there were 4 of us and we really struggled in the heat. We were in danger of running out of water, but luckily, as we ran past a camp site, we spotted a tap labelled "drinking water," so we were able to top up.

Hope your survived Andy. Understand FF just thought it may help motivate you. I only do a few events a year.
Do you do parkrun?
Steve I am on target for the 1000 but have also been trying to get 100 per month and have no green tick for the month yet.

HS that must have been a hard day at the office if you had the heat we had. 5 miles tonight including 6 x 300 efforts with 200 recoveries. Was easy enough but it was on the plan.

LL I've been avoiding doing parkrun. I have volunteered out on the course alone and been car park marshal. Away from people and crowds.

I'll get back to it eventually.

LL it was certainly a very hard day at the office!
Well done for your interval session, must have been tough in the heat 🥵
I don't know how long I will stay at the top of the leaderboard. We have a 20 mile run scheduled for next Monday, and hopefully it will be a bit cooler.

FF I don't blame you for avoiding partaking in parkruns at the moment. I feel the same way. I was concerned seeing the crowding at the starts of Sunday's Southampton Marathon, Half and 10k. Not a face covering to be seen, and probably many runners hadn't even had their first jab.

Today is a rest day for me😀

A hundred a month LL...I like to do that and have done more often than not. I miss that target now and again and in fact already four miles adrift this month. But I stopped " caring" and generally enjoy it more, it's the 1000 I am more committed to and still have two hundred to do. I don't want to be chasing it when winter bites!
Good man in volunteering FF and hope you get back to good running soon. I think you probably will!
Well run 18 miles hs and also sitting there on the throne of the leader board-- great consistent miles.
Another 5k for me, glorious early morning sunshine.
