Good going again RFJ, phew..22 odd miles in the saddle sounds some workout to me. Can't imagine no trees in the environment although despite all the talk about "looking after the planet" local councils still seem to chop when they fancy. And then like to think they offset destroying very old ancient trees hedgerows with "nice", small, easily managed items.

In fairness, trees are space in Orkney -we do however have a view of a few trees around the residential home - we also have 3 apple tress in garden, one prolific - oh and a potted Christmas tree. However two small woods within island group and nothing remotely resembling a forest. Rivers are also absent, but we do have plenty of sky, lochs and sea. Lazy today so far ...

On the subject of trees, the tree loggers have been very busy in the New Forest. Their lorries wheels have been churning up the trails leaving deep grooves and mud and the disappearance of much of the grass. From the perspective of a runner, it is ruining the forest for us, and of course cyclists, walkers and dog walkers. Presumably the trees will be replaced, but the damage to the trails will remain and get worse.
Sorry for the rant ☹ Despite my moans, I still prefer running in the forest to the roads, even if it is through mud and water these days. Ran a muddy 8.46 miles in the mud this morning.

The "trails" where I run are along a river and I've used the route variously for forty years. It was once a rough path used by occasional human beings and a more occasional fox. At about the turn of the century the local authority decided to create a "formal" footway and in parts they have surfaced it with tarmac which ruins the whole point of a trail to me. It has also attracted a few users who are inclined to be environmentally troublesome (litter, damage, trail bikers, "groups" to avoid. Benches and picnic areas have been burned to the ground!). Running in the early morning though still gives more a feeling of freedom from all that. 10k with my wife along there this morning.

The threaders seem to have thinned out which is a pity. Nevertheless I think the very high milers who were here until recently did the right thing by refiguring their targets; maybe a few more will join soon! 5k this morning keeps me on track with a bit of wriggle room.

steve45 I’m still ‘lurking’ here. Managed 1,000 last year so hoping to do it again this year. I’m a bit ahead at the moment as I’ve also been trying to do 100 miles per month as a secondary target (achieved in Jan & Feb).

I still lurk but it doesn't feel the same with not having the 1000 mile target.
However I've not run in 4 weeks as I have PF so I may adjust and return but it won't be the same as so many regulars have moved off the target list. It was the banter I enjoyed here previously.

I'm still lurking too....
More comments from me on the 100 mile a month thread than here, since I was feeling almost guilty about sitting so far over target most of the time...
I'm over target on that one, too, but people seem less bothered!
