So very sorry to hear these updates Ev. My father in law had a similar reaction to Mrs Ev following his vax, he had covid back in November and this was like a mini version thankfully he was back to normal fairly quickly.
Hope your brother in law is ok and they find the cause soon.
On rain jackets I bought a Ronhill one for a marathon mandated kit taped seams it is really good and it’s been tested in both wind and rain.

I'm sure we've had the jacket discussion in a previous year! But it's bound to raise it's head periodically..my Ron Hill "waterproof"( around £159) is only as good as an ancient old Nike Shower proof cheapo ( around £20 a decade ago). It's worth checking the measured technical performance of breathability and waterproofness (mm and mvp I think, Mrsb would know the science) on the label. My wife's Ultimate Direction seems to be right up there in performance and she only bought that because of kit expectations when doing ultras.

Evangel, I'm a bit behind in my posting, but hope your wife is ok now and also her sister.
Did a pyramid session this morning on a gravel trail, and felt a pull in my left calf during the final one. I stopped and walked. Hopefully a couple of rest days will do the trick.

Re jackets again, a good explanation of a garment being water proof/ breathable can be read at www.ultralight.co.uk where "Hydrostatic Head" (HH) is described eg usually given as between 10,000 mm and 30,000mm-- the higher the better. Breathability is measured by "Moisture Vapour Transmission" (MVTR) where for example a garment of 20,000 is more breathable than one quoted as 10,000. (Obviously?!). Apparently manufacturers are reluctant to show the MVTR figure. Ahh.. that's why I get soaked inside my jacket whatever the rate of downpours!

Mine is described as "breathable" and waterproof to 5,000mm HH. I guess it's always going to be a tradeoff between the two values...or price!
I didn't wear it today since it's not raining .

I've got a Brooks shelter technology top, which isn't waterproof or windproof.

Over a period of forty years running I would say I've generally run when it's not raining! Wearing my rain jacket is an uncommon occurrence even though I live in wet Wales! I actually like running in the rain if there isn't a gale blowing.
