My comment to you in mailbox thought you'd done well MrHSc... stats looked ok and your HR dropped after 22 miles so I merely thought you'd hit the wall and deliberately slowed down. Still, you did it, recover well and enjoy your running.

MrHSc well done for completing when your initial goals went out of the window. It’s a decent time with heat and humidity thrown into the mix. I suffer a lot in the heat so all the more kudos.

Yeah Steve saw your comment no it wasn’t hitting the wall I think more a case of heat exhaustion from the humidity.
I was discussing it with a lad at the airport who did the half and he showed me exactly the same HR stats and said the humidity was ridiculous, temperature was only about 20-22C.

Going on the train to the start line the windows were covered in condensation and the lad sitting next to me was already dripping in sweat, I just thought maybe he had been out partying the night before 😁

Well done Donnie 1 for your near 24 minutes Doncaster parkrun. It's quite a few years since I ran sub 24 minutes. My quickest parkrun is 22.08 which I ran when I was 67.

My arms were ok this morning thanks Steve, and I was able to run, see below. Yes, I'm looking forward to being able to discuss with my daughter her first C25k. I imagine that it will be mainly walking to start with.

Well done for this mornings 4 miles, you are now just one place behind me on the 1,000 miles league table.

I was similar to you, in that I usually had a rest day prior to races in my speedier days. In fact, I still do. I did occasionally though, run a cross country on a Saturday, and a road race on the Sunday.

Well done Mr HSc for completing your marathon, despite the humid conditions necessitating you to slow below your intended pace.

This morning was a hilly 6.57 (sorry) miles on roads with Sarah F. It was quicker than I had intended, but she is flying off to Spain tomorrow for1.5 weeks to visit her mum, so wanted the quicker pace.

Well done on completing the marathon, MrHSc, in challenging conditions. Humidity is not your friend in a marathon, so you should take a lot away from sticking it out and finishing. We run marathons because they are not easy and require a tremendous amount of effort sometimes overcoming adversity. That makes it a gratifying and rewarding experience. You did that. Congrats.

I'm forgiving re the failure to found up these days hs! I've been doing some "silly" endings to some of my own outings! Good run there with Sarah F who won't be back until winter is here.
I chuckle in a nice way at your comment JackW, I never ran marathons because they were hard and challenging. I only ever did half a dozen and did them "because I could"!😂 I never thought about adversity, it was all about doing PB's and standings in the running club. Approaches have changed a bit these days.
Only 2.9 miles done this morning, I've developed a bit of a sore chest and not quite 100%. I'm sure I'll be ok tomorrow.🫰

I've just noticed I've done a 99 day streak so will have to get out tomorrow! The Streaky Bacon thread/leaderboard wasn't something I was aware of until a Fetchie pointed it out that I'd done the whole of July. Thought it would be fun to continue even if in some ways, pointless. There are people on there who have done thousands of days.....

JackFW, my first 3 races were marathons. For some obscure reason in those early days, I wasn't interested in shorter races, although to be honest, there weren't that many of them around. I've run 15 marathons, but won't do any more.

Thanks Steve, Sarah has picked a good day to leave the country, as its been belting down with rain this morning, and I got soaked on the Farmers Walk as I wasn't wearing a coat. It wasn't raining when I left home.

I'm sorry to hear that you are not feeling 100% and hope that you will be back to normal tomorrow. Well done for your 99 days streak. I wasn't aware of the streaky bacon thread, but won't be joining it. I've always believed in rest days, which is probably why I'm still running after about 45 years.

I absolutely agree with you on rest days hs. I only got caught up in it by chance and because my efforts are so low key at the moment (!) doing a single mile sort of isn't much effort. I intend to have a more sensible programme very soon!
