Yes, I did look at that, but at £87 for a couple of months I might as well sink money into a power meter for good!

Bear in mind my bike only cost £299 :-) so I've a limited appetite for adding components which are worth so much in relation to the bike!

I looked at power meters and they are more than I spent on my bike so I shant be investing!

larkim, I know I mentioned this last week and I think I'm similar to you that I like to save cash where possible and feel like I'm getting a good deal. However my eye keeps getting drawn to a 2021 Giant bike that has a power meter attached, but it would mean totally blowing my "new bike" budget. If I look back over my recent YouTube history, I have watched a fair number of reviews about the bike in question. In fairness, I do need a power meter and the Giant bike has a dual-sided one, so I'm kind of justifying it to myself in that way. I even went as far as checking the local bike stores that stock Giant, but they've not got the bike in stock, which is probably for the best at this point! I mentioned it to OH yesterday and she just rolled her eyes :)

I'm at that point where I think the YouTube algorithm is almost a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's no doubt noticed I'm interested in this bike, so it keeps on offering up more videos of the bike. But then I see that most of them are "paid promotions" where presumably Giant have given the bike to the reviewers for test, but I like to think the reviewers are impartial.

My 1st road bike was £250 2nd hand

I splashed out on my current Giant using the bike to work scheme .... it was about £4-500 and I part exchanged my old bike (for £250!)
My Garmin cost more than my bike
I can afford a good bike but figure that I am a lard arse who tri's for fun and a better bike would be a waste

TBH I suspect that's the cheapest way to get a powermeter Big_G, I'd say go for it ;-)

I can't really complain, my bike's fine for me and has been a godsend for my family over the last 12 months as we've had a lockdown riding option that wouldn't have been there otherwise. I'm not good enough to justify much more on a bike, though I suppose when I'm prepared to pay £80-90 for a pair of trainers that last me 4 months I really should be prepared to spend more on a bike or components which will last me significantly longer. Though usually I don't spend much time cycling, it's just an added extra for when I get bored with running!

SRAM have pulled the plug so getting a power wheel will get harder to do

I did see some Stages 2 left crank arms on ebay for a sensible price (£100 or so), but as I don't even have a compatible BB I can't even go down that route!

It's a bog standard square taper triple (Pro Ounce apparently!) with 170mm cranks I think. Cheap to replace BBs though :-)
