Question @stilldreaming. Where are you originally from and why is tonight Mischief night?

Reason I ask, is up here (Teesside particularly in relevance to this) mischief night was last week - 30th October, and I did suggest I thought of it more as 4th November, particularly in Leeds even if I come from Bradford, but wondered if it was different dates in different areas.

@paulcook Used to live near York. Mischief Night was always associated with Guy Fawkes doing his deadly deeds. We remembered him by putting syrup on people's door handles, tieing gates up etc etc. Definitely no treats 🤦‍♀️😂😂

The mischief here last week that prompted the question was smashed pumpkins. Apparently 3 police riot vans attended so I wonder if it was in reality more serious.

I tend to remember fireworks in letter boxes. A tad more dangerous! But certainly more 4th November orientated.

I was only thinking about mischief night the other day and wondering if it got swallowed up by trick or treating.

delurks - Lincolnshire/Hertfordshire traditions as a kid was a combination of mischief and penny-for-the-guy.

(meant to say on the 4th. Halloween had own traditions which didn't involve trickortreating)

Mischief night wasn’t a thing in Derbyshire when I was a lad. I’d have been threatened with the copper stick for even thinking about it :-O
