I saw this .... I can't deny that it picqued my interest. Matt is right though, it's a tough job working long hours and probably more than I want to commit, I guess they would have more qualified applicants than me though. I see Matt quite often, he's based in Hawes but often comes by my house on his rounds. Very good fell runner with BGR, CR and Paddy completions to his name. Multiple Lakeland 100s too.

I did - that might be more appealing for some, and I'm sure they'll get lots of applicants for the main job who are well suited. We have a local community group that helps maintain footpaths, rights of way, stiles, bridges, etc. I'm interested in helping them as I get more time, but they're working through a volunteer waiting list - it's a very popular group. It's great for the community, but I might have to source other ideas for finding an outside pastime. |

Plenty of smaller outdoor volunteering opportunities around in the dales, things like increasing the stock of local provenance trees for planting by gathering and propagating seed, wildflower restoration etc. People like Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust organise quite a few things. There are a number of groups to join too, if you're interested in environmental stuff. yorkshirerewildingnetwork.org.uk malhamdale.com sustainableswaledale.org |

I remember visiting Arnside and Silverdale AONB on the Lancs coast and seeing an area of chained off land overlooking the sea with a sign saying 'Property of North Yorkshire County Council' and thinking 'well done Yorkshire - we've claimed a bit of West Coast now!' I think it was some sort of activities centre.
