There's a couple of people in my usual class who don't sit cross-legged but kneel then sit back on a block (or 2) with their feet pointing backwards (iykwim) instead.

Sitting block will really help with getting your back straight in sitting (yoga or Pilates), and even a roll or support under knees as well for those of very short hamstrings

Ah kneeling. Can be another issue. Too far and it feels like my kneecaps will be pulled apart.
I've got a couple of blocks. Sadly I'd need to sit on about 5 stacked to be anywhere near comfortable.
When I said I was not very bendy, I really meant it! Hence why I find it difficult to even do the basics.

At the moment, sitting on anything is a slight issue due to sciatica at the top of my left hamstring, where it inserts into the glute.

Not sure if Garfield looks in here but she's good at suggesting adaptations. She's definitely on the yoga every day thread

Just started doing some yoga at home (with Adriene). Currently I'm just doing it on the carpet and notice holding poses is difficult as I have no grip. I assume a mat would help with this. Can anyone recommend any mats...there seems to be such a vast range out there.

I bought mine in 1999 from my yoga teacher and it is as good as new. They last for ever!

Keep an eye on that hamstring Fozzy - is it really sciatica or is it at the origin of the hamstring? (ischial tuberosity or sit bone). If you prodded your sit bone and it felt exquisitely tender it *might* be more hamstring related (such as a tendinopathy) and therefore lots of stretching, like downward dog, wouldn't be good for it

MH - it doesn't hurt when I prod it - nor if I do a "traditional" hamstring stretch. It gets nervy after sitting on it for extended periods of time though.
I can't do downward dog anyway - it's too painful across the backs of my knees and in my shoulders!

Hi
I think I may have an ITB issue
what poses should I do/avoid? right knee outside but below the knee!
I believe I have weaker glutes *same side!* and I know my core isn't great. It's and intermittent pain whilst cycling (not running or walking) so tight hamstrings? hip flexors?
