WM - yes, a mat will definitely help you not slip - that was the factor that made me get one after a month or so of deciding if yoga was for me.... I got an eco-yoga one ecoyoga.co.uk based on the fact it was using recycled products and UK based company and not stupidly ££. I’ve had it for 18months and it is like brand new, very happy with it (disclaimer: I’ve never used anything else so have nothing to compare it to) There are plenty of cheaper alternatives though. I know aldi/lidl have mats from time-to-time and suspect other large supermarkets do as well... |

An old guinea pig of mine (it's a long story!) told me I was mentioned here... rf_fozzy - downdog adaptation - bend your knees when doing it...your legs don't need to be straight and heels don't need to be on the floor! EP - you don't need to avoid any poses. Good things - reclined pigeon, making sure your knee is pushing towards the front wall, bridge for glutes (remember to squeeze knees towards each other), deep lunge for tight hip flexors. Standing pigeon (as alternative to reclining pigeon) - stand on one leg, bend knee and fold ankle over the bent knee, pushing knee towards the floor. |

Still going away at it. Did day 21's session. The forward fold where the head touches the mat, er didn't happen for me. Ever onwards though. |

Hi all. Just wondered if anyone can give any recommendations or advice. Just starting yoga for the first time. I used to lift weights but I have a dodgy right hand and can’t grip properly. I’m hoping yoga will help me with overall strength, flexibility, and calming the mind. I already have a mat, two cork blocks and a strap and a book. I’m wondering if there’s any on-line material or apps that are particularly recommended. There are so many out there, a lot you need to pay for and some of them are not cheap. It’s unfortunate that there are no classes I can go to at the moment due to the Covid situation. The book I have is Yoga For Inflexible People by Max & Liz Lowenstein, and gives photos of each yoga pose broken down into ‘beginner’, ‘intermediate’, and ‘advanced’ depending on how flexible you are (I’m 56 so not sure how much I can achieve as far as flexibility goes). Any advice or recommendations regarding apps, books etc would be very much appreciated. Thanks 😁 |

Have a look at Yoga with Kassandra on YouTube. She has a lot of free stuff up there. Also a 30 day 10 minute yoga which might be good to start you off.

Yoga with Adriene is what worked for me when I started back in March. Loads and loads of free stuff on YouTube. And this thread is great fetcheveryone.com/forum/the-yoga-every-well-some-days-thread-60099/ And I'm 54 and have noticed a big difference in just 6 months |

You will definitely notice a difference in a relatively short time PLB.
