Lovely class this evening, lots of leg stretching/hip opening stuff. I am very much enjoying my new yoga studio, close to the office, classes that I like, engaging teachers and there's a 5:30 class twice a week.
And, the classes are a good mix of attendees, a fair few unbendy middle-aged folk, and not rows and rows of swishy haired 'clean eating' types like the other nearby studio I tried.

Yes, classes are much more enjoyable when you like them.
At this morning's yoga class, the teacher said that her classes are relatively easy and she might introduce some more demanding work in future classes - much to the audible dismay of some ;-)!

It was Anahata week for us - we've been doing a chakra a week for a while*. Nice.
*Five weeks?

That was a good link describing different "types" of classes. Looks like Hatha or Yin for me, cos all the other ones are the more vigorous stuff and I don't like that. I do enough vigorous in running and weights classes, thank you! G

That's a nice post Happers-Gee-ers. I tried Pilates a while back, and (this sounds daft even typing it) it seemed too much like exercise, without actually being recognisable as such.

Yeah, you probably wouldn't get on with Vinyasa yoga...it's quite strenuous - good for upper body strength with downward dogs.
I've found some bits of it disagree with an old yoga injury of mine, so I've resorted to Pilates to get what I need without annoying my odd glute injury.

I always get confused when people talk about Vinyasa yoga, as technically speaking, it isn't a form. It just means flow and is used to describe sequences. I teach a very classical Hatha yoga style. What has worked for thousands of years doesn't need jazzing up. I just adapt postures for those of advancing age or with physical limitations

That's interesting Hanneke and makes sense. My teacher had been doing a lot of Ashtanga poses interspersed with Vinyasa flow. Then floor work or standing poses, depending on the night.
