Oh dear Ed ! I'm afraid we have similar story with Ralph - tying lead to a windbreak on the beach doesn't stop a determined Springer who has seen a ball that he quite fancies....

We take Jet camping. He sleeps in the soft crate that I use in the car. In the absence of doors we have a large spiral stake that we screw into the ground to tether his lead so that he doesn't go visiting at every other pitch. Jet seems to enjoy the experience.

Thanks Helegant. You have described our set up, so hopefully it will work for us too.

Just removed a tick from Ralph -mislaid the tool we had, since we've never needed to use it -he's 8.

Sliding tick btwn the prongs of a fork seemed to work ok (luck)

Seems Frontline no longer stops ticks :(
What should I be looking out fir now? I think we got it all, but how do I know?

I can't help on ticks I'm afraid but all the camping stories have just reinforced my belief that I would rather never go on holiday again than attempt camping with Wanda!! :-)

I don't know RH. We keep the tick remover in the glove box of the car so we always have it close-ish to hand wherever we are, but luckily so far we've not had to use it on Flossie. The only place our other dogs have ever got ticks is around Swanage but I think that's as much luck as anything as there must be plenty round here too.

Ernie had loads of ticks last year. Deer territory near us. Not sure what to look out for RH. We use the twister thing and never seem to have had issues.

Charlie had a tick at the beginning of April, first one ever. Being a neurotic first time dog owner I phoned the vet. Advice : "remove tick, then watch the bite area for a few days. The lump should gradually disappear. If it goes red, seems to be causing distress or your dog seems otherwise unwell, make an appointment for him to be checked."

BTW Charlie wears a Seresto collar during the summer months, our vet swears by them and it's probably why he's never had a tick before.
