The dog beer was very common in good old Belgium, came in 2 varieties if I remember rightly!
I have my little dog back from his holidays. I'm not sure what to think. He's been staying with a lady and her 2 dogs, she also has a couple of extra dogs for day care so he's been living as part of a small pack for a week. Apart from the fact that he came home FILTHY (I wouldn't expect her to have bathed him and it's particularly wet and muddy here today) he seems to have lost all his good manners. He's extremely boisterous. I think we'll be having a couple of quiet days to try and calm him down again.
Thursday is "Bye Bye Bert and Ernie" day, I've not broken it to Charlie yet...

Stella blotted her copybook this afternoon. She's always very good with the kids in the cul-de-sac that want to pat her, so I thought nothing of it as she gently wandered over when two of them called her as they passed the garden. I didn't spot that one of them was holding a cheese roll at Labrador head-height however until she'd (very gently) taken in for herself. Thankfully the kids found it hilarious, especially the fact that Stella just obliviously wags her tail all the faster when she gets a telling off.

What's a dog to do? 'Here's a cheese roll' was the message!

Haha! Who could possibly resist such temptation.
AtC - I often wonder what E is learning when he goes off with the dog walker. He always looks like he is having a ball but always in the thick of it.
Well after a rather stressful week and one of those weekends where I haven't had a minutes peace, I have been feeling a little overwhelmed and very grumpy this afternoon. ABout an hour ago I was grumbling around the kitchen asking myself why on earth I thought adding a dog into the mix was a good idea. However, we just had a brilliant walk. He walked to heel for 90% of the on lead part of the walk without me even requesting it. He recalled beautifully when he was off lead - even when there were 2 dogs in the distance. He is now at my feet waiting for me to cut up the latest batch of liver cake

We collected Jet from the dog-hotel this afternoon. Hre smells as if he has eaten large quantities of fox poo/other-dogs'-dinner. He is also very subdued. The chap said he was very quiet and kept out of the way of the other dogs - apparently there were 'quite a few' extra dogs there last night. Given that all the dogs are big dogs I don't think it's the right place for Jet, so we won't take him back there.

I'm sure Jet's bounce will quickly return, perhaps even by the time you see this. But no perhaps not the right place for him. Your usual kennels was booked up wasn't it?

Yes, it was our own fault for leaving it too late.
I'm sure Jet is being very submissive just as he has been for the last couple of days and will return to normal soon (once he gets over the runs - an added bonus :-(), but next time I'd like to send him to stay somewhere that he will enjoy. I like the way he comes out of the kennels with his tail up and looking happy, and is just as happy to go in there.

A happy dog means a happy owner. Poor Jet. I've also got reservations about leaving Charlie again. It's fine for a day but he's not his usual self after being there all week. Maybe I'm being over sensitive...

Slightly (very) random post...
It's our band Children's Prom this weekend and we're all dressing up as characters from kids films (ugh). I've opted to go as Cruella de Vil. I thought it might be mildly amusing to take Charlie along disguised as a dalmation.
I thought about painting black spots on his white fur perhaps with boot polish or food dye - but very quickly realised what a stupid idea that was. I'm not keen on dressing up dogs but looked on dog costume sites anyway, typically there are no spotty ready made outfits to buy.
Does anybody have any bright ideas how I could do this? I was thinking of maybe modifying a baby vest or something....
I may come to my senses before Sunday and take him as the white fluffypup that he is
