It all sounds really distressing Baroness. I know we're only 'virtual' friends but I'm sure everyone on this thread is thinking of you and hoping it all gets resolved happily very soon. xx

Thank you LD and everyone on the thread who has been so kind. All of you here feel a lot better friends to me at the moment than some of the people in my own neighbourhood, who I may not really know either, but who are basing judgements on the bits of gossip going around that 'everyone knew that dog was a danger to children....' ?????

Easier said than done....
I popped round to the vets tonight to get a new flea treatment and while I was there I thought I would ask whether they keep records of which of their clients are more difficult than others (ie what I was really asking do they record which dogs regularly bite the vets!!) They don't but they are going to write a 'character reference' for Wanda to say that they have never seen her demonstrate any aggression to humans. I am also now trying to get other similar 'character references.'
If Wanda had been biting people at every opportunity and we had 'got away' with the majority of them I'd be putting my hands up now and saying it's a fair cop.... I know any bite is obviously a bite too far... but I'm going to make sure that Wanda has the best mitigation case that I can present for her.........

That's a great idea Baroness. Can the trainer at your class can help too?

I haven't asked them yet but I think the lady who has taught us most recently almost certainly would help.

I'm sure the police have to be seen to investigate. If they had real concerns they would have removed Wanda immediately surely. There's a huge difference between a dog lunging to nip another dog and a well meaning owner sticking a leg in the way, and a dangerously out of control dog.

A character reference to Police will do little in swaying how the matter is dealt with, they are not the courts. I don't think courts would take a character reference for a dog either.
It will be dealt with based on the facts and the circumstances of what happened and once a balanced view of what is said by everyone involved is taken into account. Then the Police will decide how to conclude the report.
