instinct will out! Jet and I went for a walk around the lake this afternoon. He caught his first rabbit (it hardly moved and I suspect it had mixy). He proudly carried it for about 100 yards then took it off the side of the path into the forest and dug a hole in the leaf layer and pushed the rabbit into it. Then he changed his mind went back to get it and took it off the other side of the path into the overgroth there and came back without it looking happy and with his tail held high. I didn't see where he put it so obviously it was a better hiding place. Then... on the way back we chose a different route thorugh some overgorwn marshland which is currently dry. Then he jumped in the stream. I've never had to comb so much wet and sticky stuff from his fur. It took almost an hour!

Soggy dogs are bad enough but slimy, sticky ones are a whole other ball game.

And with very sandy wet fur because of the bottom of the stream. It was truly horrible. Mr kept himon the lead today to avoid a repeat of the mess.

I foolishly gave Ernie a bath without assistance earlier. All was going well until the hot water ran out and he was less than keen to be rinsed off. Cue escape attempts, bathroom swimming in water and soggy me. He was very excited afterwards though.

I always shut the bathroom door when bathing the dog. An excited spaniel can cover a lot of ground.

Yes bathroom door was shut so most of the mess was contained. It was the bath escape that caused a bit of flooding. I dried him off as much as I could before releasing the hound.

Every time I return 'my' dogs (not mine - I borrow them to walk them, and they are spaniels and where we go they can be off lead, so they spend the whole time in the sea/ in the ditches/ in the mud/ in the undergrowth) I have to tie them up to the garden gate and literally hose them down. I have never managed to not end up needing a shower and a complete change of clothes.

Ah now this is where the double coated, self cleaning dog comes into his/her own.
No baths required for GSDs.
Mind you (I've noted this before) GSDs are THE worst shedders in the whole of Dogdom. Not just my opinion ...fact!
And the medium haire dones (like Jess) are worse than the long haired variety. Long haired dogs (Afghans, Yorkies frinstance) don't shed much at all. I guess they need a lot of grooming though to keep them pretty.
